Townley Road Pedestrian Crossings

We’re proposing to improve pedestrian crossings at three locations on Townley Road.

The proposed changes will make it safer for people to walk, cycle and wheel, reducing traffic speed along the road.

Improvements include:

  • Removing the islands near the entrance to Alleyn’s School. Instead of using this crossing, pedestrians are encouraged to use the safer zebra crossing, also by the school entrance.
  • Putting in a new zebra crossing and speed humps to replace the existing two-stage crossing near the entrance to the playing fields.
  • Improving the pedestrian crossing near the junction with Dovercourt Road, adding dropped kerbs and tactile paving to make it easier for disabled and visually impaired pedestrians to use.
