The THINC Brixton & Peckham Fund has £400,000 in total funding – with £200,000 available for projects in Peckham.

This fund was created so that local people can shape how charitable money is spent. The community decides who gets the funding, which means your friends, neighbours, and supporters will be able to vote for your project and help bring it to life.

Charlene Mensah9 months ago The project supports women and girls who face barriers to menstrual health and dignity.What will your project deliver?The South-East London Dignity Project will run a 12-month program tackling period poverty and menstrual stigma among women and girls across, SouthwarkThe project will deliver:· Monthly menstrual health workshops in schools, youth hubs and women’s shelters.· 500 reusable period product kits distributed to those experiencing period poverty.· Training for 20 “Period Champions” — young women aged 16–25 who will co-lead sessions and become peer educators.· A Menstrual Health Toolkit (print and digital) co-created with participants for community use.· Two community events – a project launch and a final celebration showcasing impact and stories. Which group(s) or communities is your project intended to support?ort?The project supports women and girls aged 12–40 in South-East London Peckham who face barriers to menstrual health and dignity.Priority groups include:· Those from low-income households.· Refugee, asylum-seeking, and migrant women.· Young people in schools at risk of missing classes due to lack of menstrual products.· Women in hostels or temporary accommodation.We will partner with local organisations such as Southwark Young Advisors to ensure outreach to those most affected.What difference will it make?This project will:· Ensure 500 women and girls have reliable access to safe, reusable menstrual products.· Increase knowledge and confidence around menstrual health for all participants.· Reduce school and work absenteeism caused by period poverty.· Empower 20 local young women as peer leaders and advocates for menstrual equity.· Promote sustainable practices, reducing waste and encouraging reusable alternatives.Ultimately, the project will create healthier, more confident and better-connected communities where menstruation is no longer a source of stigma or hardship. How will this funding help your community?The £50,000 funding will directly:· Pay for a part-time Project Coordinator (0.6 FTE) to manage workshops, volunteers and partnerships.· Cover costs for workshop facilitation, materials, and reusable kits.· Provide safe, accessible venues for women and girls to learn and connect.· Enable Uzuri Her to build lasting local partnerships and leave behind trained community leaders.Without this funding, hundreds of women and girls in South-East London would continue to face period poverty, stigma and isolation. With it, they’ll gain the tools, education and confidence to live with dignity. Kevron Mckay9 months ago · We are kindly requesting £7,000.00.· Blue Stars Elite Football Club is based in Peckham. Our football club delivers a safe and fun environment, to learn football skills; promote health and wellbeing, have a place of safety, make friends, gain confidence and learn how to work in a team.We want our children to feel like they are part of a family and a positive asset to the community.· We currently support children aged 6-16 who live in locally deprived areas mainly Southwark, are on a low income and the majority are from the BAME group.· The difference it will make is that it will help keep the football club open and running and the football pitch fees will be paid for at least half a year. The children will also be able to turn up to football matches in the correct uniform and looking as equal as everybody else.This will help by improving their training and discipline skills, boost their confidence and help them feel welcomed by other children in the community.· Funding would help contribute to our 2x a week football pitch fees that we have to pay for and also to allow us to purchase team football kits so our players are in uniform for their Sunday match days. This will also help to replenish football equipment when needed.· Our project has been a success for 8 years now but football pitch fees have increased and have been considering cancelling one of the training sessions, so this would dramatically help.We want to continue the success of helping the young children to potentially make it as a footballer in the future which we have achieved in the past with children being signed to Arsenal and Crystal Palace. To continue successfully keeping the children of Peckham off the streets and keeping them occupied to steer away from trouble that they could come up against.We do not want to raise our clubs monthly fees for the parents as we know everyone is in financial difficulty at the moment so keeping our fees low means we are one of the cheapest football clubs in Southwark.

Zurine Santander9 months ago BlindAid requests £12,500 for its Sight Support Service benefiting 33+ blind & visually impaired (VI) residents in Peckham with SE15 postcodesThey’re a particularly vulnerable “unseen & unheard” group: mainly older people (65-100+) living alone with sight loss, facing extreme isolation, poverty & poor health. They’re at high risk of falls/fractures, depression, heart disease, loneliness & stress due to the daily challenges they face, their loss of independence & sedentary life. Transport barriers, inaccessible infrastructure & limited digital skills mean many are shut out from everyday life, unable to access services, connect with others or participate in their community. Their isolation puts them at high risk of abuse & exploitation by “friends”, family & scammers praying on their vulnerability- & a rapid decline in physical & mental health.80% of UK blind/VI are aged 65+ (RNIB). Despite their health needs only 10% of blind/VI people get health info e.g. appointment letters in accessible formats e.g. braille/audio (SLC 2021), causing interruptions in care, serious health risks & disengagement from services. Depression is over double for VI people than the UK average (RNIB) but only 17% receive counselling (RNIB). Our Peckham Service User (SU) survey shows: 95% live on benefits, they can’t afford paid support services; 80% receive no help at all from other charities, they feel "forgotten". 58% receive no, or few, visits from loved ones; 54% can’t leave home alone; 53% are alone at least 4 days/wk.BlindAid’s Sight Support Workers (SSW) spend 1-2 hrs/wk with each SU via home visits & phone calls to provide:Service Access: By reading appointment letters, arranging appointments, transport, liaising with services, completing forms & advocating on their behalf, SSW connect SU to vital services e.g. GPs, hospitals, ESA, benefits etc.Emotional support: Long-term companionship, connection & encouragement. Regular visits bring a joy, reduce loneliness & are something to look forward to. Trained in mental health first aid, SSW help SU develop coping mechanisms to psychologically adjust to sight loss & regain their confidence & independence.Wellbeing Monitoring & Advice: For many, their SSW is their only contact with the outside world. SSW can detect deterioration in mood, health, living conditions, coping abilities or signs of abuse/exploitation that may otherwise go unnoticed, averting crises e.g. hospitalisation. SSWs raise urgent safeguarding concerns when needed. SSWs train in topics e.g. accessible tech, Diabetic Retinopathy, Glaucoma & advise SU about new scams; ways to stay healthy; services & assistive devices available to them etc.Practical help: reading food & medicine labels; resolving issues with utilities, banks, GPs; translation when possible; digital access; sourcing assistive devices e.g. talking microwaves, audio books; finding lost/dropped items & other tasks prioritised by the beneficiary that support their independence &wellbeing.Outcomes based on past Survey Results90% feel less isolated90% experience a life-changing or significantly positive impact80% feel more confident80% report improved general wellbeing, quality of life & mental health75% feel more independent65% helped to stay connected to NHS/statutory services50% helped to cope emotionally (Some SU have been VI for years &dont need this support)We’ve delivered this service for 190 years. Unlike larger charities, BlindAid works on a deeply personal, local level. We’re the only local charity providing consistent, holistic home-based support, for free, that users depend on & look forward to. 100% of our Peckham SU say BlindAid provides them with the most useful support compared to other charities. We reach those most in need that others can’t. Without BlindAid’s help many tell us they would never leave their homes or have any social interaction at all. We help blind/VI people to feel happy, connected, visible, valued & like they belong again.

Isles Suddek9 months ago Futures We Can Touch will deliver a programme of collective imagination workshops for marginalised people in Peckham, designed to create affirming spaces of hope and resilience.This programme will directly support the lived experience of LGBTQ+ communities, people on low incomes, and those living with multiple health conditions. These groups experience higher rates of isolation, stigma, and barriers to care. For people who are constantly forced to re-imagine their lives to survive within systems that don’t support them - navigating disability, poverty, racism, transphobia, or insecure status - these workshops offer a crucial shift and a space for affirming collective care. Collective imagining is the process of supporting shared human capacity to envision, believe in, and create realities together: the stories, symbols, and assumptions through which humans make sense of the world and decide what’s possible. The programme will support participants through guided imagination practices, embodiment tools, and group discussion - mapping present struggles and envisioning futures beyond isolation, poverty, or illness. For example, participants might be guided through a visualisation where they imagine a future community centre designed for their needs, then translate those visions into drawings and shared storytelling.Instead of imagination being a coping mechanism for exclusion, it can become a celebrated skill and source of power. By validating this lived capacity to adapt and dream, the workshops transform what is often experienced as exhaustion or invisibility into agency, creativity, and belonging. This directly supports mental health: when people feel seen as resourceful visionaries rather than ‘problems to be managed’, they experience reduced shame, greater confidence, and connection to self and community. By experiencing themselves as capable of shaping change, participants will strengthen both their mental health and sense of collective power - qualities that ripple outward into relationships, communities, and local environments. They will be more likely to seek support, express needs, and take small, confident steps towards freer futures. The workshops will reframe collective experiences, helping people see themselves not as isolated individuals trying to survive, but as part of a wider network of care and change-makers. This will contribute to reducing loneliness, regulating stress and increasing social connection - two of the strongest protective factors for wellbeing.I am requesting funding of £4950 to provide these workshops free of charge, on a weekly basis throughout January - December 2026. This will cover costs for venue hire, admin, marketing and weekly facilitation - allowing me to reach people who really need these spaces.The design of this programme is rooted in my lived experience as a queer, neurodivergent individual who has navigated periods of living on low income and mental health challenges over the past decade. The programme design builds on over five years of coaching and facilitation, informed by trauma-informed practice, queer theory, somatics, and community care. I trust deeply in the power of collective imagination and it would be a privilege to deliver these workshops in Peckham, the place I call home.

Steve Verrall9 months ago The total amount of funding we are requesting is £12,585.00 this would be for 9 months of our programme. We are an American football team which caters for 16 to 19 year olds we have been running since 2009 and are based at Burgess Park, Southwark. We work closely with a local basketball team London Legends, based at the Damilola Taylor Centre in Peckham. Legends have a history of referring young people to us who want to play American football alongside basketball, recently Legends have seen a marked increase in young people requesting to play both the sports. Fortunately the seasons for each sport allow this with basketball running September to March and American football running March to August. Our funding would start an under 16 American football session on the Astroturf at Damilola Taylor Centre on Wednesday evenings 6pm to 8pm. Our programme would change the odds for vulnerable such as children living in poverty and will help to reduce youth offending and youth violence. We would also help to reduce childhood obesity and increase engagement in education, employment and training post-16. Some of the current and previous Renegades have come from troubled backgrounds experiencing poverty and violence, a number of them struggle in mainstream education and are at risk of offending. By joining the Renegades they were able to re-direct themselves into positive lifestyles through the discipline and focus required to play our sports, a number of them have gone on to secure sports scholarships at US universities and 2 have gone to play in the NFL. Our programme would provide a stable, safe haven for youth and young men from vulnerable, disadvantaged backgrounds. Our programme would help to generate a wide sense of community solidarity and trust that serve as buffers against the individualistic and anti-social elements that otherwise contribute to crimes against property and the community at large. Our club has been in South London for several years and is well known in the area we have had significant success in turning young people around. American Football is one of the fastest growing participation sports in the UK, with a very high profile in social media and popular culture, many NFL athletes come from urban backgrounds which the young people from South London can relate easily to, because of this many more young people are interested in these sports and would like to try them. We have worked with many young people who did not participate in other sports because of their size but were ideally suited to certain positions on an American Football team. We have run sessions across Southwark and the surrounding boroughs for several years. We have run several satellite clubs at schools targeting inactive and semi-active young people. The sessions we deliver involve activities which help to develop basic skills and understanding of the sport.

Caya Therapy9 months ago For many people in Peckham, finding good therapy is harder than it should be. It is expensive, over-subscribed, or simply does not understand your experience. Unless you are well off, therapy is often out of reach, and too many people go without the care they need.We want to change that. We are launching a community counselling service designed for the people of Peckham; long-term, in-person therapy that understands the realities of our lives, our families and our community.Private counselling in London costs upwards of £60 a week, psychotherapy around £70, and psychology £120. That is simply unaffordable for most people. The alternatives are also limited. NHS Talking Therapies have waiting lists stretching to six months for assessment and up to a year before treatment begins, often offering only a few sessions of short-term CBT focused on symptoms rather than context. In some areas, waits for therapy can reach two years.The charity sector has also been hit hard since Covid. Southwark Mind, the only remaining local provider, is so over-subscribed it regularly closes its waiting list. There are a handful of other organisations in Southwark offering low-cost therapy, but their clinics are outside Peckham or at capacity.In our community, effective and ongoing support is severely under-resourced. Southwark’s Joint Strategic Needs Assessment shows that rates of mental ill health are higher than the London average, particularly among Peckham’s West African, Caribbean, Latin American and Asian communities. People are struggling, and the help that exists does not always understand them. Peckham, in common with much of London, is in desperate need of more accessible and inclusive therapy. Caya’s Community Counselling service aims to set the standard for this.We will provide up to 12 months of high-quality, in-person, culturally aware therapy for people who need it but cannot access it. Sessions will start at £20. We will support around 30 individuals at a time, as well as couples and families, through a diverse team of therapists offering a range of approaches.A key part of this is making the path into counselling more inclusive, which is why we will pay our trainee and newly qualified therapists £2,000–£3,000. Most low-cost therapy services rely on unpaid trainees, yet training costs up to £8,000 a year, a barrier that keeps the profession unrepresentative. When therapists are supported, they can better support their clients.We have been part of Peckham since 2020, already the area’s largest therapy group. We have built a strong, sustainable model and deep community ties, running grief groups and collaborating with local organisations such as London Community Boxing. This new not-for-profit Community Interest Company will be built to last, sustained by our existing practice’s profits.With your support, we can begin work immediately and open in early 2026.We’re asking for £50,000 to fund our first year of core staffing (Service Manager, Clinic Lead and Supervisor) so that you, your neighbours and your family can have access to good, affordable therapy in the heart of the community.

severita Iwobi9 months ago I am a resident of Peckham who has worked with the local community and youth for over 17years supporting young people and their families. I am asking for £7,000 to help connect BAEM and immigrant groups together and encourage them to share their beloved recipes and the tips and tricks that help them afford the food they love. It will bring together those who may struggle to socialize or dealing with low incomes together as the events will be free to attend. Grief is something that has affected us all in a significant way especially since covid 19 and there has been a rise in those depending on food banks. I have found however through feedback from parents and young people I have worked with that there is a stigma surrounding the use of food banks. Often when handed a bag of vegetables and very little experience cooking meals from scratch, families are resorting to highly processed foods not because they do not want the homemade meal rather because they do not know where to start. My idea is to create a small team that goes out into the community and provides cooking lessons and talks. This will be done in community centers, in homes where appropriate and outside where permitted. By connecting with the community, I would like to start a community cookbook with recipes and tips from the average home cook. It could come from any family member however I am particularly interested in those from the grandparents and the older generation. From my own experience too many treasured recipes left with my family members who have passed away, and the tradition was lost. This community cookbook will be free to all and can be added to. I will run sessions during the school holidays due to work and family commitments however will plan special event days where the local community can come together to connect. This cookbook will be written by the people for the people and will include vital tips and tricks for the kitchen. The cooking events will give young people and their family’s hands on experiences that will hopefully encourage them to get in the kitchen and become creative but will also signpost their local community center where they can go and access support. The funding will help pay for necessary training for the volunteers ie food hygiene and will also help purchase cooking equipment that will be taken to the talks and demonstrations so we can help anywhere we go. It will also help provide the food ingredients at these events however if we are successful, I will be reaching out to other food charities to see if they can help support also to help prevent food waste in the community. The funding will also help create the cookbook that will be mainly digital but also printed copies for those who struggle with technology. My project will be a success because it is about teaching and learning from each other. Trying new foods and realising that all of our cultural differences can connect us through the art of cooking. It will help families make healthier tastier choices and encourage them to write their ‘own cookbook’. Helping to make healthier choices feel more affordable.

Laura Ayuso10 months ago The aim of our organisation, is to use the martial art capoeira and its associated rhythms, movements, and dances, as the vehicle of social inclusion and inspiration for disadvantaged people in the community. Our activities are aimed at supporting disadvantaged people to develop their skills in order to have a better chance to integrate in the community and a better future. As a result of our activities, we are aiming to reach our outcome of building stronger relationships within the community. and break barriers among members of the community coming from different backgrounds and cultures, facilitating their social inclusion.Project summary: Our organisation would like to run a social inclusion programme in Peckham, to improve the quality of life of children and young people that come from disadvantaged backgrounds. The young people that we want to engage with our activities are at risk of social exclusion and a risk of offending.Benefits: 1- Healthier and more active children and young people, due to an increase in participation in sport.2- Social Inclusion of disadvantaged children and young people coming from minority backgrounds, low-income or marginalised commmunities.3- Skills development: 90% of children and young people increase their self-esteem and find an activity they are passionate about, meeting new peers of their age and creating a sense of belonging to a group.4- Strengthen bonds among young people from different cultures, getting young people from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds to have an improved understanding of each others cultures.Project details: Well-being and social inclusion project for children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in Peckham, The main activities will be the martial art capoeira and its associated dances and rhythms. We will offer an extensive social inclusion programme in which the project participants will learn the martial art capoeira and associated dances and acrobatic movements.In this particular programme for young people, we will run 100 project hours over a period of 35 weeks, with extra activities over the summer time, for two age groups, 05-11 and 12 to 16 years old.Outputs:- Consultations and tester sessions to recruit participants.-Partnerships with local organisations.- 100 hours of project delivery that will benefit 50 participants.Outcomes:-Social inclusion of children from underrepresented communities.-Improved physical and mental well-being of participants.-More active children and young people.We will use attendance records, case studies and feedback forms from the partner organisations that send us the referrals. We will also use individual progress reports, evaluation and monitoring forms, progress sheets and questionnaires to collate, measure and report the benefits highlighted in our application. The voices of the participants are very important to us. We have run consultations among the young people in the area, asking them about what kind activity they would like to have in the project. We will also have feedback forms and surveys during the project to improve our services. Our organisation creates an inclusive environment and encourages people from different backgrounds to use our services. We also believe in teamwork, and work closely with other local organisations, (Catch-22, Lookahead, Nacro, Connexions, CVS) and Academies, to make sure that we reach to as many young people as possible in Peckham. We run consultations in the community of Peckham,and within the local authority and other local organisations to make sure there is enough demand for the activities that we are offering. The results of the consultations showed us that the number of inactive young people in the area is growing and there is a need for the project.The total project cost is £9900 and we have raised £5000. We still need the remaining £4900 if we want to start the activities in January 2026.Location: Bells Gardens Community Centre

The Bradfield Club's young members warmly invite Peckham's local community to watch their video below and vote for us!Our youth sports club and 490 young members are asking for a £15,000 grant to help run our THINC Peckham Youth Sports Academy 2026.The Bradfield Club is Peckham’s oldest youth sports club. Established in 1912, our members are all aged 4 to 21 years old.For 113 years, we've helped Peckham’s young people get active, take up sport, make friends, eat well, improve mental wellbeing and take healthy choices in nutrition, relationships & education.Our THINC Peckham Youth Sports Academy 2026 project would deliver:- Sports & recreation activities throughout 2026 for up to 100 new members – and our 490 existing members - all children & young people living in Peckham.- A free, hot, healthy meal every day during the school holidays for children at risk of holiday hunger.- Inclusive activities to break down barriers to joining the Club like ‘open day’ events at our welcoming community hub in Peckham to greet new families.- A campaign in Peckham's schools to meet children and encourage them to join the fun at our Club as new members.- Our friendly, professional Youth Worker mentors will help young members overcome any personal challenges and attain positive mental health.This project will support young people of Black, Asian and ethnic minority heritage - especially children who are currently inactive and socially isolated. 75% of The Bradfield Club’s members identify as Black British and 10% are of Asian and other minority heritage. Our staff are also local and representative of Peckham’s diverse community.This project will also support children from families with low incomes. All of our activities are free of charge and we work through our local networks to identify, invite and welcome children from families with less resources. Paul Addae9 months ago In 2021/22 Professor Caitjan Gainty and myself explored Brixton as a possessing a thriving counterpublic health sphere. Yet one of the burning questions for me is how does Peckham also share a similar counterpublic health sphere? The project will explore the subaltern counterpublic health spheres within Peckham, along with a review of the history of Peckham as being a subaltern and subcultural sphere, similar to Brixton, which has a myriad of counterpublic spheres due its history of being home to a variety of resistance identities. A number of entities were established which, in Gramscian terms, served a counter-hegemonic aspect in that free spaces were established as pockets of resistance. BAME communities contain a sizeable segment of those who have opted out of the mainstream biomedical and healthcare mainstream institutions. BAME communities therefore are becoming more informed about their own health needs and concerns via informal networks. People are informed by their own cultural networks which sometimes oppose mainstream norms and conventional advice. Some commentators refer to this as ‘self-care constructed as a political act’ and that ‘health activism’ is itself functioning as a form of resistance to the dominant mainstream medical institutions, by those who felt marginalised by, and alienated from, said institutions (Nelson, 2011). The ‘collective efficacy’, articulated by Steinmetz-Woods et al. (2017), has occurred in areas such as Peckham. As Peckham is not only home to an active and established health counter public sphere but has also been the location of many health stores, some new and some more established, which has led to a wellness activism in the community which encapsulates a diverse and broad range of individuals. Hence, the lucrative wellness, vitality and health activism sector in conurbations such as Peckham. Outlets such as Baldwins, which is also in Southwark, serve as key locations wherein this counterpublic health sphere is manifested. Further to that, there are a number of other spaces in Peckham which provide counterpublic health refuge for many people who feel that conventional mainstream health is inaccessible, untrustworthy or ineffective for their health and wellbeing. This project will help to understand how there is a parallel and sometimes competing mediscape which people utilise to access healthcare. It may help to demonstrate that local people in Peckham are utilising their own agency for their own wellbeing and that may sit outside of mainstream healthcare. Moreover, because of structural racism, it has now come to light that there is an institutional disconnect between communities and health institutions. This must be looked at from the perspective of health and space as without understanding the counter-public vitality of these locales then this will not be fully understood. For a range of different reasons, such as poor housing, racism, police brutality there has been distrust and this also overlaps into health among many in the urban space. My project will provide an initial exploration, reviewing literature and some semi-structured interviews with key people in Peckham. We are committed to helping people in Southwark and the surrounding areas by providing access to healthy and engaging activities at affordable prices. ● We want to bring together people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds in a common pursuit; engage the most vulnerable and marginalised members of the community; and contribute to improving health and fitness; building confidence, discipline and life skills; and enhancing prospects beyond sport.● LCB incorporates a community membership gym, outreach activities, and an England Boxing affiliated amateur boxing club. It also offers opportunities via volunteering, training, and employment. ● The membership gym is a community space, where people from all walks of life can congregate take part in activities together, which we believe can contribute to bringing the community together across social, economic, cultural and other barriers, while providing diverse, positive role models for young people. The gym offers a range of concessions so that no one is excluded on the basis of affordability. All our kids’ classes (17 and under) cost just £1. People who are unemployed, on benefits or otherwise constrained financially pay just £2 to use the gym or attend a class. We also have free community classes. ● Our special outreach sessions have engaged thousands of people from all backgrounds, with special emphasis placed on targeting those who are inactive and at-risk. We work with partners in running special programmes focusing on people with mental health issues, young offenders, people with disabilities, women with small children, people recovering from addiction, people struggling with bereavement, older people (65+), and others. These are all free for the participants. We also work with schools and other community organisations to provide specially tailored sessions for them. ● At various times during the year (in particular holidays), we to run sessions with partners, such as Burgess Sports, Southwark Council and Dream, Believe, Achieve, InSpire. These sessions are free for the participants. We also run special sessions for schools in the area. ● We try as much as possible to offer volunteering, training and employment opportunities to the young people who participate in our special programmes. We currently have former programme participants working on reception, coaching, and boxing as amateurs. We also offer programme graduates the opportunity to use the gym, attend classes or join the amateurs for free for a period of time if needed so they can stay in touch and continue their progress. ● In an incredibly difficult funding environment, this funding will help ensure we can continue this work and reach even more people. Feedback, monitoring and evaluation results, and continued popularity and high attendance show how successful and impactful these sessions have been.

Weekly peer-to-peer sessions will offer dads the opportunity to share experiences, build friendships, and attend workshops led by professionals on mental health, resilience, and family wellbeing. Practical life skills will be developed through cooking and nutrition sessions focused on affordable, culturally diverse, SEND-friendly meals using local produce from Southwark markets. These sessions will also include advice on housing, employment rights, and access to local services, linking everyday wellbeing to empowerment and stability.To promote physical health and community engagement, the project will include inclusive sporting activities such as football, table tennis, and group walks in collaboration with partners like Burgess Sports and Southwark Table Tennis Club. This initiative directly responds to that gap.Funding will enable us to hire skilled facilitators with lived experience of SEND and migration, secure community venues across Peckham and Camberwell, provide sports and cooking equipment, deliver wellbeing activities and retreats, and monitor outcomes through surveys and case studies.The project builds on the success of our first Dad2Dad event, which attracted over 60 local fathers. Co-designed with Southwark dads, it is supported by strong partnerships with Burgess Sports, South London SEND Network, and local faith groups. Our target audience for this funding is young females aged 11 to 16 attending Peckham Harris Academy who are carefully selected by the school welfare officer to ensure each group benefits from our tailored sessions. These young people often face emotional, social, and economic challenges, and our programme provides a safe, structured space for growth, learning, and positive engagement.We are seeking £10,000, with £8,000 allocated towards staff salaries between January and December 2026 to maintain this as a free service, £500 for refreshments, and £1,500 for materials and stationery. The funds will solely support our ongoing six week intervention workshops at the school, consisting of small group sessions and one to one mentoring, designed to address key areas such as self love, managing emotions, building resilience, assertiveness, communication, and healthy relationships.The programme includes small group workshops delivered over six weeks to new cohorts following the completion of each cycle. Alongside the workshops, young people take part in practical sessions at the local community centre including cooking, arts, drama, and sports such as boxing, providing positive coping mechanisms and experiences they might not otherwise access. These activities promote self confidence, hands on learning, and personal development.Our project has been recently enhanced through a revised theory of change, incorporating young people’s feedback and impact monitoring to ensure our programmes are effective and meeting their needs. Staff are trained to a high standard, including level 3 mentoring, IAG training, trauma informed practice, and mental health first aid. Two designated safeguarding officers oversee all delivery, while other staff and volunteers maintain a minimum of level 2 safeguarding, ensuring safety and quality throughout the programme.We monitor outcomes through attendance tracking, pre, mid, and post programme assessments, and one to one reviews with students, parents, and school welfare officers. From previous programmes, we know our approach is effective: 100 percent of participants reported finding the programme useful, 83 percent reported learning something new, 83 percent found the workshops helpful, 57 percent experienced an increase in confidence, and 54 percent stated the programme supported them in managing challenges they faced prior to attending.This funding will allow us to continue delivering these essential interventions and provide targeted support to young people who are socially isolated or facing multiple challenges. By offering free, engaging, and structured activities, we help young people build resilience, make positive life choices, and access opportunities that might otherwise be unavailable to them. Our long standing relationship with the school ensures that we work directly on their challenges, measure impact, and adapt our sessions to meet their evolving needs.With THINC funding, we can continue providing a safe, supportive, and enriching environment for young people in Peckham, helping them thrive both academically and personally while developing skills, confidence, and resilience that will benefit them long into the future.

Rooted in faith, culture, and lived experience, the project tackles deep-seated health inequalities and mental health stigma across the Afro-Caribbean community.After recently returning from a visit to a high-security prison in Nigeria, where Tony delivered hope, faith, and health education to inmates, he witnessed first-hand how poor nutrition, emotional distress, and lack of preventative care can shorten lives. Many men he met were struggling not only with incarceration but also with untreated trauma and the effects of an unhealthy lifestyle. This experience reinforced his belief that mental, physical, and spiritual wellbeing are inseparable, and that education, compassion, and connection can rebuild even the most broken lives.The eight-week programme will run across South London, particularly in Brixton, Peckham, and neighbouring areas. Each cycle will engage up to 20 participants of African and Caribbean heritage, focusing on four pillars: mental health, physical wellbeing, nutrition, and emergency care. Sessions include open discussions on emotional resilience, guided fitness and mindfulness activities, healthy cooking workshops using culturally familiar foods, and accredited first-aid and CPR training. Participants will learn how to respond to health emergencies including stab wounds, heart attacks, and shock, while also developing everyday habits that improve their long-term wellbeing.At its heart, Wellbeing for Life is about restoring dignity, confidence, and community. Many participants will come from low-income families, faith groups, or backgrounds affected by stress, chronic illness, or social isolation. By creating a trusted, culturally relevant space, the project will encourage open conversations about mental health, reduce stigma, and build peer support networks that last long after the sessions end.The £50,000 funding will enable Love Connection to deliver two full programme cycles, covering facilitator fees, accredited trainers, venue hire, health equipment, materials, and community outreach. There is significant evidence-based research on the powerful, positive effects of singing on improving mental health and well-being.SingSomatic Workshops for Health and Wellbeing can help individuals become more connected to themselves, and combat isolation as they feel more closely bonded to others. Studies demonstrate shared musical experiences strengthen feelings of belonging and reduction in symptoms of anxiety and depression. For example, the effect of singing interventions on symptoms of postnatal depression, in patients with breathing difficulties such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). SingSomatic Workshops for Health and Wellbeing, will create an inclusive, supportive space where people explore their authentic voice, drawing upon somatic and singing practices and techniques, which include those from traditional singing, and draws on the practices of black, indigenous and queer somatic practitioners, teachers and healers. The project will offer weekly sessions where participants will be guided towards deeper body awareness (somatics) while learning and enjoying singing in community. In a community where many young people face barriers to opportunity, PSK has become a home for those who need connection, confidence, and care. Over the past three years, we’ve built ‘Up The Path’, a pathway that gives young people access to football clubs and equipment, mentorship, and life skills that reach far beyond the pitch. Our work brings together children and families who are often overlooked, like those living on tight incomes, managing health challenges, adjusting to new countries, or simply needing somewhere to belong. Through our partnerships with local grassroots teams PSK acts as an umbrella for smaller community clubs, helping them access equipment, food provisions, and build safe, inclusive environments for their players. As a result, we are able to host football tournaments and open training sessions bringing these clubs together and creating a bigger community and a network of support that helps young players grow in discipline, teamwork, and self-belief. A central part of our growth is our ‘Boot Bin’ Initiative, a new way to make football more accessible and sustainable. Across Peckham, we plan to place secure and lockable metal donation bins where residents can drop off outgrown football boots in good condition. These will be cleaned, refurbished, and donated back to local children who can’t afford new pairs giving every young person access to equality when playing. It’s a simple, community-led idea that helps families save money as well as teach children to give back, keeps boots out of landfill, and ensures every child can step onto the pitch with pride. Alongside football, PSK remains deeply grounded in its roots as a soup kitchen, providing regular food provisions for families facing hardship and ensuring that young people are fuelled and supported. Through our nutrition and sports science workshops, we teach what to eat for energy, performance, and recovery, helping them understand their bodies, build healthy habits, and tackle food insecurity and obesity. We also run fitness and wellbeing sessions exploring how movement, rest, and nourishment connect to mental health and self-confidence. To give young people a voice beyond the pitch, we’re developing the ‘Up The Path Podcast', a youth-led platform where players can share their stories, speak openly about life on and off the field, and inspire others with their journeys. Through food, football, and honest conversation, we create spaces where young people can grow stronger in body, mind, and community With £50,000 in funding, PSK will expand Up The Path by: Introducing the ‘Boot Bin’ network across Peckham. Starting up our ‘Up The Path Podcast’. Increasing to regular monthly tournaments with free healthy meals. Providing more kits, boots, and equipment to youth teams. Offering financial literacy and wellbeing workshops. Strengthening our mentorship for young players and grassroots coaches. Alex Margolies9 months ago 1) £28,1392) We know that many of our clients live relatively limited lives, especially in terms of their socially activities, outside of attending employment sessions at Toucan Employment. This has had severe impacts on clients’ mental health, especially in the light of many other local services/charities closing down. We are also conscious, through discussions with clients, of the severe negative effects of the Covid-19 crisis on many of our clients, who were often isolated either through concerns about the crisis, or due to secondary health conditions that either they or their parents/carers had, making them more vulnerable than the general population. There are longer and longer referral times to mental health and although we have put a mental health focus into all our work, and trained staff as Mental Health First Aiders, we feel there is more that could be done. The social group will have a range of purposes: - Expand social engagement and knowledge of what is out there to do in a city like London. Southwark is particularly well located as far as distance is concerned to main centres of the arts, sports, parks etc, but many people with learning difficulties/disabilities and autism do not travel out of their immediate areas. - Participate in activities during the evenings and weekends e.g. Heart n Soul or Bubble Club events; various free community festivals; sporting events; Southbank Centre events; going to the pub, cinema or theatre; cycling at the velodrome - Incorporate group sessions/workshops led by professionals in areas such as relationships; keeping yourself safe, both in person and online/social media; keeping yourself safe in the community/on the street. We feel this will be beneficial to both the mental and physical health of clients through having fun and engaging with peers, as well as activities such as park walks, cycling, gym and sports activities.3) The project will work with Peckham and Brixton residents with learning difficulties/disabilities and autism.4) The intended outcomes are, Vulnerable people with learning difficulties/disabilities and autism to have: - increased employability skills; - increased vocational skills; and - increased social skills.- We feel the work of the project will support the wider work of Toucan Employment, in moving clients near to, and into, sustainable employment.5) This funding will help the community as it is of benefit to everyone that some of the most vulnerable people in society are engaged in positive activities and are improving their mental health.6) We feel this will be a success as we have run similar activities previously and had very successful outcomes for our clients, their parents/carers, and the wider community

Our sessions are inclusive by design and co-developed with and for community members who are most affected by systemic inequalities.With this funding, we aim to expand our accessible, free-of-charge programmes including physical activity sessions and psychosocial services such as job readiness training and mental health support. These will be delivered in primary and secondary schools, as well as community spaces, with a particular focus on women and girls, and individuals from racially minoritised backgrounds, where there is clear evidence of need. Funding will directly support the costs of hiring facilitators, purchasing equipment, and delivering training over a twelve-month period.Our work directly contributes to reducing health and social inequalities by: Increasing physical activity levels Enhancing social connection and a sense of belonging Building skills and confidence to access employment opportunities Promoting positive health and social behaviours These outcomes strongly align with local council and community priorities, including Southwark’s Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy and the Birmingham and Lewisham African Caribbean Health Inequalities Review (BLACHIR), co-authored by Lewisham Council. Our work tackles young people’s mental health challenges by addressing the structural root causes of stress and anxiety in schools, rather than responding only to symptoms. Research shows that punitive behaviour systems worsen wellbeing, with over half of young people reporting that school negatively impacts their mental health (YoungMinds, 2023). These systems disproportionately harm pupils from marginalised backgrounds, compounding inequality.Our approach shifts school culture from punishment to understanding, from control to connection. We work with educators to build inclusive, reflective classrooms that prioritise empathy and belonging. Over 85% of teachers we train report moving away from reactive behaviour management towards approaches that actively promote wellbeing. By embedding practices that nurture rather than erode mental health, we reduce stress, anxiety and exclusions, creating schools where students and staff can thrive.Our Embedded Pilot is currently transforming two Lambeth schools (Henry Fawcett Primary and Lilian Baylis Technology School), reaching around 1,200 students. Through deep listening, observation and collaborative problem-solving, we help school communities identify and change everyday practices, such as rigid uniform rules, restricted toilet access or punitive detentions, that unintentionally dehumanise students and staff. Together, we reimagine these norms to build environments where young people feel safe, seen and valued.What the project will deliver:THINC funding would extend this learning to eight schools in Brixton, offering a 100% discount on our Membership offer (valued at £6,000 each per school). Recognising that staff cover is the biggest barrier to participation, we will ring-fence the funding to provide a £2,500 contribution per school towards release time or supply cover, ensuring staff can attend training and implementation sessions without disrupting provision.Each participating school will receive: One INSET day focused on equity and wellbeing Training for 9 staff members, equipping them to embed inclusive practice Strengthened safeguarding culture Active participation in a Brixton learning network linked to our Embedded Pilot Communities supported:Our work serves children and families on low incomes; Black, Asian and minoritised groups; young people with insecure immigration status; LGBTQ+ students; those living with disabilities or long-term health conditions; and those in or leaving care.
