Streets for People - London Bridge area

We’re working with the community to make our streets cleaner, greener and safer.

By making it easier and safer to walk, cycle and wheel, and spend time outdoors, we can improve air quality, support physical and mental wellbeing, and strengthen local communities.

Where we live has a huge influence on our health.

In Southwark, people under 75 are more likely to die from preventable diseases like heart and lung diseases than compared with other parts of London and the England average.

Long-term conditions such as heart and lung disease are often linked to physical inactivity, air pollution and the quality of the environment around us. Streets which encourage walking, wheeling and cycling, reduce traffic, enhance public spaces and improve air quality can play a key role in preventing these illnesses and supporting longer, healthier lives.

Our Streets for People programme is taking ambitious steps to transform streets across our borough to create public spaces that better serve our communities.
