Housing Allocations Scheme Consultation 2025
This consultation invites you to comment on proposals to update Southwark Council’s Housing Allocation Scheme, which sets out how we allocate social rented housing in Southwark.
We have a public law duty to operate a housing allocations scheme that sets out how we allocate social rented homes. The current Scheme was introduced in 2014 and now needs updating in accordance with regulations and statutory guidance issued by the UK Government.
It is important that we hear from as many people as possible on these proposed changes, and we encourage you to respond to the consultation with your views.
This Consultation will close on 1st June 2025.
Once the consultation ends and all the responses have been reviewed, we will make final changes to the proposed new Scheme and present it to Southwark Council’s Cabinet for their approval.
We will, of course, publish the final Scheme document and write to all applicants on the Housing Register to let them know of any changes to their priority once their application has been reviewed.

Changes to the housing allocation scheme
Making housing allocation fairer.
We are making changes to our allocations scheme, which explains how we offer homes to people on the housing register. Last year we asked residents what they thought about our proposed changes.
The main feedback was that:
- the housing register should be fairer
- the rules should be simpler and easier to understand
- some residents may need more help to bid for homes
- some changes could unfairly affect vulnerable people
Thank you for sharing your views. We have been reviewing your feedback to improve and clarify parts of the new scheme before any final decisions are made. You can read the full report in the attached documents.
The updated scheme will be considered by the Executive in July.
