Southwark Housing Allocations
Housing Allocations Scheme Consultation 2025
This consultation invites you to comment on proposals to update Southwark Council’s Housing Allocation Scheme, which sets out how we allocate social rented housing in Southwark.
We have a public law duty to operate a housing allocations scheme that sets out how we allocate social rented homes. The current Scheme was introduced in 2014 and now needs updating in accordance with regulations and statutory guidance issued by the UK Government.
It is important that we hear from as many people as possible on these proposed changes, and we encourage you to respond to the consultation with your views.
This Consultation will close on 1st June 2025.
Once the consultation ends and all the responses have been reviewed, we will make final changes to the proposed new Scheme and present it to Southwark Council’s Cabinet for their approval.
We will, of course, publish the final Scheme document and write to all applicants on the Housing Register to let them know of any changes to their priority once their application has been reviewed.

Phases
Proposed changes to housing allocations scheme
Southwark Council, like all local authorities, has a public law duty to operate a housing allocations scheme, and is required to periodically review its Scheme.
It is important to note that we are required to allocate social rented housing in accordance with regulations and statutory guidance issued by the UK Government. The current Housing Allocations Scheme was introduced in 2014 and requires updating so that it continues to comply with legal requirements and good practice.
This Consultation will close on 1st June 2025. Following this, we will analyse and consider all consultation responses and amend the proposed new scheme as appropriate. A final recommended draft scheme document will then be presented to Southwark Council’s Cabinet for their approval. Once any final changes have been approved, we will begin the implementation of the new scheme.
As a registered providers of social housing ourselves, we are also required to ensure that our tenants are actively involved in, and able to influence, our housing related policies and general strategic priorities. We are consulting our tenants on this proposed new scheme, and invite participation through the tenant’s newsletter and our website.
It is important that we hear from as many people as possible with their views on the proposed new Housing Allocations Scheme, and we are contacting everyone on the housing register, as well as our social housing tenants to encourage them to respond to the consultation.
Your views are important to us and will impact how the proposed new Southwark Housing Allocations Scheme will operate.
