Special Educational Needs and Disabilities - Redesigning the Banding System

We have received valuable feedback on version 12 of our proposed banding system redesign. As a result, we have extended the public consultation to 15 March and would like to hear from you about revised version 13 via our survey.

You can find the new documents attached below (please scroll down).

Banding is a system that helps the council decide how much extra support funding a child or young person with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and/or SEND, should receive. Each “band” represents a level of need, with higher bands providing more resources so schools can put the right help in place. This approach aims to make funding fair, consistent and transparent across all schools, ensuring that children with similar needs receive similar levels of support. Southwark is currently redesigning its banding system to make sure it reflects real levels of need, is easy to understand, and supports children well across all types of settings.

We have spent a year, working with headteachers, Special Educational Need Co-ordinators (SENCOs), parents and carers, designing a new banding system for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in Southwark.

Please read the documents attached and respond to the survey, to help us understand whether the new system meets the needs of our young people.
