Salter Road
Southwark Council has secured funding to improve walking, cycling and public transport routes as part of our Streets for People Strategy, our ambitious plan to improve the air we breathe and the way we travel in Southwark.
Salter Road has been identified as an area for improvement in the Streets for People Delivery Plan. The objectives of the scheme are to:
- Tackle excessive speeding on Salter Road
- Improve road safety
- Provide better cycling and walking infrastructure
- Improve public spaces, more greening, seating etc
In our recent Streets for People surveys, you told us that you wanted more trees and green spaces, pavement improvements, more crossings, and decluttering (moving signs and bin storage etc). We would like to hear more from directly affected residents and businesses on and near Salter Road, to have the opportunity to feed in to the early scoping stages of the design.
Please tell us what you like about the area, what you dislike about the area and what should be our priorities for the scheme?
Currently we are in early stages of scoping the project so are engaging pre- design with local residents to listen to their issues and ideas. There will be a full consultation in 2026 when we will invite comments on a proposed outline design.

Share your suggestions about improving Salter Road
Please tell us what you like about the area, what you dislike about the area and what should be our priorities for the scheme? Place pins in the map tell us about specific locations:-
- where you are worried about speeding or road safety
- where you have other concerns about walking or cycling
- where you think there are opportunities to improve the road, pavement or other parts of the environment
Currently we are in early stages of scoping the project so are engaging pre- design with local residents to listen to their issues and ideas. There will be a full consultation in 2026 when we will invite comments on a proposed outline design.
Salter Road also sits in the Bacon's College School Superzone - this aims to improve safety and support healthy choices for the students at Bacon's College - we are asking the views of parents and local people - open until 28 September.
