Ryedale Traffic Scheme - Feedback Form

Update February 2026: we are pausing this scheme.

Earlier this year we wrote to residents describing plans for a closure to motor vehicles on Ryedale, together with traffic changes on Cornflower Terrace and Balchier Road. These changes were aimed at reducing through-traffic and lowering vehicle speeds, after concerns were raised with ward councillors by local residents.

We had planned to introduce these changes under an Experimental Traffic Management Order. This is not our usual approach, but we considered it so that we could respond quickly to local concerns. However, since the announcement, many residents have contacted us, raising concerns about lack of engagement and the possible impact the scheme could have on the wider area.

That is why we will be looking at many of the helpful suggestions put forward by residents, alongside updated traffic and speed data in the wider area. This will inform the development of broader joined-up proposals as part of our Streets for People strategy, which is being rolled out across the borough and includes extensive community engagement at every stage.

We hope that this allays the concerns that many of you have expressed. We look forward to working constructively with the local community to explore long-term options for reducing through traffic, improving vehicle speeds, and making it easier for people to walk, cycle around your area.
