Rye Lane Cycle Lane Improvements

Rye Lane, between Hanover Park and Copeland Road, was closed to traffic on 6 July 2020 as a response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

On the 18th October 2021 the road was reopened to buses and bicycles traveling in both directions, under an 18 month experimental traffic order, which has since been made permanent.

People have told us that the cycle facilities in the northern section of Rye Lane are inadequate and lead users and pedestrian to have conflict on the footways.

Our plans propose to:

  • Improve the southbound cycle track by stepping it down from the footway and improving the materials used to distinguish between the footway and cycle track
  • Inset the bus stop to allow passing space for Northbound cyclists
