Portland Street improvement project
Tell us what you think about proposals to improve safety at junctions on Portland Street.
Through Streets for People we will transform our streets, enabling safer, cleaner, healthier and more sustainable journeys, creating space for communities to connect and socialise and support a thriving local economy.
We are proposing to make improvements to the pedestrian crossing facilities on Wooler Street and Trafalgar Street at their junctions with Portland Street. The works aim to improve this link in the borough's designated walking routes as well as improving access to Faraday Gardens.
The addition of the buildouts and raised tables at the junctions will create a safer, more accessible, and easier to navigate layout for all users. The designs will improve the safety of the crossing by increasing the visibility for both drivers and pedestrians as well as slowing vehicle speeds and making drivers more aware of the pedestrian crossing facility.
We are also proposing to install new planting beds within the buildouts on Portland Street, to make the area greener and more attractive.
