Statement of Community Involvement and Development Consultation Charter: Minor Updates
Help us shape how we involve local people in decisions about in planning for developments
We would like to know what you think about our proposal to make changes to our Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) and Development Consultation Charter (DCC). The two documents aims to give clearer guidance on when and how local people should be involved in having their say on what gets built in the borough.
Our Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) sets out how and when we will involve local people, community and voluntary groups in having their say on planning policies and planning applications.
The statement also includes a Developers Development Charter (DCC) that guides what we want developers do to when they engage the public on major building developments, covering for example, the building of community centres, schools, places of worship, business premises and housing developments.
What changes have been made?
Having the implementation of the SCI and DCC over the past two years, officers have made some minor changes, aimed to make the planning and development rules clearer for both residents and applicants.
As the proposed changes are minor, we are only consulting on the amendments. The documents below show what changes have been made.
This is proposed to replace the 2022 adopted SCI. The consultation was agreed at Cabinet on 3 December 2024.
We’re keen to hear from people who live, work, study, worship and volunteer in Southwark on what they think about changes we’re proposing to make with the two guidance documents.
Our planning policy team at Southwark Council looks forward to hearing from you by the closing date of 19 February 2025.
