Newington Gardens Playground Improvements

Southwark Council has secured funding to improve Newington Gardens Playground, and we would like to hear your views.

The project will include resurfacing and refurbishing the play area, installing at least one piece of inclusive play equipment, and enhancing accessibility to create a more inclusive space for all.

We have now received a proposed design, which can be viewed below and would greatly value your feedback.

Feedback and Updates

30 December 2025 00:00 - 1 June 2026 22:59

Update following initial consultation:

Thank you to those who took part in the initial consultation, overall, 21 people answered the survey which is greatly appreciated. The feedback gathered will be carefully reviewed and will help to inform the next stage of the project including the design.

We really value all feedback, and while it may not be possible to implement every suggestion, your feedback will help shape the playground.

Common Request

1.    Variety of play equipment

  • More equipment for both younger and older children
  • New, challenging play features such as climbing equipment
  • A wider variety of equipment, as the current playground feels limited and outdated
  • Facilities that encourage active play, including climbing, swinging, and balancing activities

2.    Themed Playground

  • Themed playground equipment to stimulate imagination, creativity and role-play opportunities

3.    Planting and greenery

  • Requests for more colourful or wildlife‑friendly planting
  • Concerns that existing planting reduces visibility and contributes to safety worries

4.    General Park

  • There were some concerns regarding pests and anti-social behaviour in the park generally, the parks team will work with stakeholders to try and improve these issues

What’s Next

We will use the information gathered to help us prepare a proposal for various play contractors. They will then provide design options for the refurbished playground. We hope to have more information on this in early 2026 and will share updates here as soon as they are available.
