Murdock Street Pocket Park Consultation

We want to build on Old Kent Road’s 20 year programme of investment and regeneration that will deliver real, tangible benefits for the local community. We will develop its thriving business, arts and cultural communities and transform Old Kent Road as a place to live, work and visit.

With over 35,000 people living along the length of Old Kent Road and its local neighbourhoods. We want to ensure that everyone gets to enjoy all the benefits and opportunities that the redevelopment of Old Kent Road will bring, including new homes, jobs, schools, parks and community facilities.

The regeneration presents a unique chance to tackle community green spaces such as underused Murdock Pocket Park. Improving the green place to play, rest and travel through, away from the noise and traffic of Old Kent Road. A multi use and generational space for all to enjoy.

Murdock Street is underused by vehicular traffic so the proposals are aiming to create a high quality green space which resonates with the identity of the surrounding area and has a positive impact on health and well being.

The project aims to:

  • Deliver a safe, green link that encourages active travel between new and existing developments, in addition to proposed open spaces such as Ruby Triangle, Livesey Park, and Bramcote Park.
  • Address the climate emergency with planting and greening to help clean the air, sequester carbon, address the urban heat island effect, and promote biodiversity.
  • Improve accessibility to a renewed, thriving high street creating inviting spaces to encourage dwell time benefitting the local economy.

We are seeking views on draft plans, designed by Erect Architects, in collaboration with Studio Dekka and Southwark Council.
