Revised Plans for Gibbon Road

18 December 2025 00:00 - No end date

The consultation was closed on 09/12/2025. We have looked through the comments, objections and suggestions received. Respondents are generally in favour of providing the zebra crossing as shown on the consultation drawing. Many of the businesses and other respondents have objected to the conversion of the existing short stay parking outside the shops/businesses located at 60 to 64 Gibbon Road. Having considered these objections, we are no longer proposing the parking space to be ‘Loading only’ and instead the parking space will stay short stay parking. We have also made other changes on the proposals. All the changes are noted below and the updated consultation plan is attached for your information. These changes represent a compromise between the various demands on the highway.

  1. The proposed parking bay outside shops at 60 to 64 Gibbon Road is to be no longer ‘Loading only’. It is to be short stay parking being same as the existing parking provision in this area.
  2. The proposed footway buildout on Oakdale road is deleted. However, the raised table on Oakdale Road at the junction is retained. Deletion of the buildout makes junction easier for the large size vehicles to turn. The raised table would help reduces speeds of vehicles on Oakdale Road as they approach the junction along a falling gradient.
  3. The proposed bollards on Oakdale Road at the back of footway to prevent its use as a crossover (ref 75A Gibbon Road). We have removed this item from the plan. The council will continue to assess this location and give further consideration.

Regarding the existing parking provisions outside 50 to 54A Gibbon Road. This parking space is necessarily shortened by moving the bus stop and the associated road markings further north by about 10m. This does not leave sufficient space for short stay parking that would require 11m minimum length. However, the remaining space is adequate for the ‘ELECTRIC SCOOTER & CYCLE HIRE’ parking which requires shorter space. We have therefore, provided the short stay parking on the east side of the road instead.

On the basis of the details shown on the attached plan, we are now proceeding to finalise the package of construction drawings to enable construction work to commence early 2026.
