We are seeking committed and enthusiastic individuals to join the Southwark Black Elders Centre Working Group. This group will play a vital role in creating a community centre that honours the cultural, social, and physical needs of Black seniors in Southwark. Please see below for more details.

Working Group Expression of Interest
Purpose
The Working Group will collaborate on creating a safe, welcoming, and empowering space where Black seniors feel supported, valued, and connected and have their health and well-being needs addressed.
Key Objectives
· Help design a space that reflects the values, heritage, and diverse health and well-being needs of Black seniors in Southwark.
· Ensure the lived experiences and voices of Black seniors inform every step of the process.
· Create a sense of ownership and pride in the centre among Southwark’s Black communities.
· Create a space that is open, welcoming, and accessible to all.
Who Should Apply?*
We welcome expressions of interest from from:
· Black seniors living or working in Southwark.
· The family members and carers of Black seniors.
· Individuals with experience of delivering services to Black seniors.
· Anyone passionate about advocating for the well-being needs of Black seniors in Southwark.
*Please note: This working group will support Southwark Council to secure a tenant to take on the Lease of the new centre. Therefore, to avoid a conflict of interest, people applying to join this working group will not be permitted to apply for the Lease when the opportunity arises.
Commitment
Following an informal interview process, the final Working Group members will attend monthly meetings for a period of approximately 6 months and work collaboratively with council officers on key decisions to shape the centre. Your voice will help create a space that meets the needs of Southwark’s Black elders for generations to come.
