Brimmington Park Upgrade
Brimmington Park is an important social, transit and sporting space for the local community. Southwark Council is investing in the park to improve walking/cycling routes, sporting provision, increase biodiversity and creating space for new activities.
Previous public consultations held in 2019 and 2020 helped shape our initial concepts. However, the project faced delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic and concerns about the ongoing costs. Following a review of the project in 2025, we have revised the scope. The new design prioritises affordable, deliverable improvements that can be paid for using council capital and Section 106 funding from the recently completed Aldi development.

Feedback and Updates
Brimmington Park Consultation Summary
Between March and July 2026, we consulted residents, park visitors and local organisations about plans to improve the sports facilities at Brimmington Park. Feedback was gathered through meetings, an online survey and an event in the park. The survey received 42 responses, and we spoke to more than 60 people at the park event.
Overall, feedback was positive. 79% of survey respondents liked the design or thought it was okay, and 76% expected to use the park more often after the improvements. The most popular features were new seats, upgraded football pitches, public toilets, an improved shared cycle and pedestrian pathway and an upgraded outdoor gym.
The main points raised were:
- keeping sports facilities affordable and providing opportunities for free use
- improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists
- addressing antisocial behaviour and safety after dark
- protecting green space and supporting wildlife
- ensuring fair access for different groups, including girls and women
- managing parking and access around Clifton Crescent
People also asked for more trees, plants, shade and wildlife-friendly areas, while keeping open space for sport, play and relaxation. Feedback highlighted the importance of making the new facilities welcoming and accessible for people of different ages and for people with disabilities.
How feedback has informed the design
The consultation feedback has helped us refine the design in several ways:
- People asked for safer routes for pedestrians and cyclists, so paths will be widened to provide more space for people to pass each other safely.
- People raised concerns about restricted views and hidden areas, so planting will be kept low in key locations, and bushes will be removed or trimmed to improve visibility across the park and around entrances and corners.
- People were concerned about safety after dark. Lighting was already included in the proposals, and the feedback has reinforced the importance of providing effective lighting along the main paths and at park entrances.
- People asked for more greenery and wildlife-friendly areas, so the planting proposals will provide more trees and plants while maintaining clear views and open space for sport, play and relaxation.
- People were concerned about the affordability of the football pitches, so the proposals include free-to-use sports facilities and some free or subsidised sessions on the new pitches.
The next stage will be the submission of a planning application. There will be another opportunity to comment during the statutory consultation period.
