Brandon Library and Youth Centre Redesign

Southwark Council is improving Brandon Library and the Youth Centre. This is the third stage of consultation with local residents and young people. In earlier stages, we asked residents for views on the outside of the building and the overall layout of the spaces and there was also a planning permission consultation. These parts of the project are now agreed and will not change.

This questionnaire focuses on the inside of the building — the fit‑out, furniture, colours, materials, seating, and the overall look and feel of the library and youth centre. Even if you have not taken part before, this survey gives you all the information you need to share your views.

Your feedback will help make sure the finished spaces feel welcoming, comfortable and useful for everyone.

You are also welcome to join us at these community events:

Phase 2: feedback from consultation

13 February 2025 00:00 - 1 March 2025 00:00

Following the consultation events and survey responses the feedback has been shared with the designers and final new plans drawn up.

In response to the consultation, some changes have been made to the library lay out, while most of the consultation feedback will be used for the fit out stage and planning of activities when we re launch the service. The exterior elevations remain as shared during the consultation.

Please note that the fit out elements on the plans (furniture placement, etc.) are for illustrative purposes, particularly in the library. Some more fine tuning on the fit out is likely to take place once we get to that stage, as library fit out specialist will be appointed to undertake that work in due course.

The preliminary planned project timeline is as follows:

  • Planning Permission and Procurement of Contractors: February to July 2025
  • Award of contract: August 2025
  • Works start on site: September 2025
  • Completion of works: November 2025
  • New facilities open: December 2025
