Streets for People
From "Emerging priorities for Borough and London Bridge"
Go to the project

Our streets and pocket parks are our front gardens (because most of us don't have outdoor space).
But we allow tower blocks that make them windy, uncomfortable and unfriendly.
We allow large diesel trucks that pollute the air and put us in danger (including deaths).
We cut down mature street trees that keep us cool in summer and support nature in this area of nature deficit, because we can.
We require pitifully small contributions to parks from new developments that don't even fund basic maintenance.
We don't control crime or anti social behaviour - going out into our garden shouldn't be frightening.
And we allow dog faeces in places where nurses have lunch and children play.
We could do so much better.
