Improving east-west traversal for cyclists.

From "Emerging priorities for Borough and London Bridge"

Go to the project

If you're in the north of the borough and you're wanting to traverse East to West, rather than north to the south, there are not many good cycle roads for you, and the ones that do exist seemingly just stop at random places without fully connecting through. For example, if you're in the Waterloo area and you want to go to Tower Bridge, you can get most of the way there on The Cut/ Union Street/Newcomen Street, until eventually you hit half way along Snowfields, and it becomes no-through, and you are forced to take a very long detour.

You are very close to the top end of Bermonsey Street, which is in and of itself is a destination, and close to the CS4 cycle route out to Greenwich. It's bizarre to me that you pass by C6 and CS7 north-south cycle routes, heading toward a very good central to south east route, but there's no joining together of them, even though the roads between are sufficiently quiet and nice enough that you could manage.

My suggestion is that all of Snowfields becomes contra-flow so that cyclists can get to the top of Bermondsey Street and then up to Toolely Street, which leads you to CS4. And that cycling infrastructure is considered on Crucifix Lane and the top part of Druid Street to allow a more unified east-west corridor from CS4 through to Waterloo.
